Dear Continuing or Prospective Student:

[twocol_one]

Thanks to all who were able to participate in the two Albany Fall Watercolor classes which recently ended!

Beginning in January 2017, I will offer two 7 week Tuesday Albany drawing classes:  Drawing at noon, and in the evening,  Drawing with Pen, Ink & Brush.  Detailed course descriptions of these classes & dates & times are below.

As usual, anyone who is a returning student or who recruits a student to a class gets a free gift.  Advanced students or students who have taken previous classes with me can work independently in their choice of media in any class with individual help.   Note: you do not have to be a “senior” to sign up for these classes.

If you are interested in one of these upcoming classes, please register as soon as you can after registration opens on December 7th as classes must meet minimum enrollment in order to be held.  Registration is  sometimes possible at the class but only if enough students have  registered before class start date.

Check back with my website periodically.  I may offer other classes in other locations or private/semi-private instruction in my studio in Walnut Creek.  Hope to see you in class and hope you have a wonderful Holiday Season!

Listed below are course descriptions and schedules for these Winter classes I am scheduled to teach through the City of Albany – Recreation and Community Services Department.

Learn to draw! Or, learn how to draw better!

This class is an introduction to drawing using a variety of media.  Students will learn basic elements of visual language including line, shape, value, scale, rhythm, and light. First, we will work in black and white using charcoal, make & use a viewfinder to learn how to look at something and form a basic composition, then learn how to shade with charcoal.  Next we will draw with pen and ink and wash learning free-flowing pen and brush lines and shading with cross-hatching, stippling and wash. Next, we work with pencil to learn basic perspective. Students will draw from their choice of still life set-ups, flowers & other nature objects, or from photographs using a variety of approaches to provide a well rounded introduction to drawing.  An easy method for achieving matting/framing very economically will be taught.

Advanced students or those who have taken a class with Stephanie can work in their choice of any drawing/painting media, with instructor working with them individually.

Students should bring any charcoal or newsprint they already have, along with several objects to draw to first class.  Materials will be discussed and list handed out at first class.   $4 materials fee due at first class.

Drawing with Pen, Ink & Brush

Open to all levels and ages.  Pen, ink & brush is an inexpensive, easy-to-use drawing media that can resemble an intricate line drawing etching or a painting in black and white.  (Working in black and white is good training for painters in learning to see and build strong values in their compositions.)  Beginning students will work in drawing with pen, ink and brush.  Techniques such as free-flowing pen and brush lines and shading with cross-hatching, stippling and wash will be taught using a variety of approaches and exercises.  (Students who have taken a class with Stephanie can work in their choice of any painting or drawing media, with instructor giving them individual critiques and lessons.)  Students will supply their own pens, ink, brushes and paper.  Instructor supplies special paper, other materials for class.   Plus learn easy, economical ways to mat & frame finished pieces!  Bring several objects to draw and whatever supplies you already have to first class where materials will be discussed and list handed out.  $4 materials fee due at first class.
