Winter Schedule 2014
[divider_flat]
Dear Continuing or Prospective Student:
[twocol_one]
Had a good response and a wonderful time teaching the two Albany fall painting classes, Acrylics and Watercolor, and the fall drawing class in Pleasant Hill. Thanks to all who were able to participate! Beginning in January, I will offer two Albany classes: Drawing with Pen, Ink & Brush and Painting with Acrylics and – in Pleasant Hill – Basic Drawing and Beyond!
As usual, anyone who is a returning student or who recruits a student to a class gets a free gift. Advanced students or students who have taken previous classes with me can work independently in their choice of media in any class with individual help. Note: you do not have to be a “senior” to sign up for these classes.
If you are interested in one of these upcoming classes, please register as soon as you can since classes must meet minimum enrollment in order to be held. Registration is sometimes possible at the class but only if enough students have registered before class start date.

Check back with my website periodically. I may offer other classes in other locations or private/semi-private instruction in my studio in Walnut Creek. Hope to see you in class and have a wonderful New Year!
Listed below are course descriptions for the Winter classes I am scheduled to teach and the class schedules in the following locations:
City of Albany – Recreation and Community Services Department

Drawing with Pen, Ink & Brush
Open to all levels and ages. Pen, ink & brush is an inexpensive, easy-to-use drawing media that can resemble an intricate line drawing etching or a painting in black and white. (Working in black and white is good training for painters in learning to see and build strong values in their compositions.) Beginning students will work in drawing with pen, ink and brush. Techniques such as free-flowing pen and brush lines and shading with cross-hatching, stippling and wash will be taught using a variety of approaches and exercises. (Students who have taken a class with Stephanie can work in their choice of any painting or drawing media, with instructor giving them individual critiques and lessons.) Students will supply their own pens, ink, brushes and paper. Instructor supplies special paper, other materials for class. Plus learn easy, economical ways to mat & frame finished pieces! Bring several objects to draw and whatever supplies you already have to first class where materials will be discussed and list handed out. $4 materials fee due at first class.
Painting with Acrylic
Open to all levels and ages. Students will learn how to handle acrylic paint including how to mix colors, use of mediums, texture and washes, how to see values and build compostions. Initially learn to work acrylics like oil on canvas (thick and creamy), then like watercolor on paper. Beginning students will do exercises, and then can choose to paint abstracts, landscapes, botanical studies, still-lifes or other subjects of their choosing. Continuing or advanced students can start on individual paintings in acrylics or their choice of any painting or drawing media at first class,
Advanced students or those who have taken a class with Stephanie can work in watercolor or in their choice of any drawing/painting media, with instructor working with them individually. Basic drawing and composition as it relates to creating a painting will be taught to all including making a viewfinder and making working sketches in charcoal. Learn easy, economical ways to mat and frame finished pieces.
Students are encouraged to create visual richness by developing the thought and feeling in their work. Students should bring any supplies they already have to first class where materials will be discussed and list handed out. Students suppply their own paint, brushes & paper. $4 materials fee due at first class.
Basic Drawing and Beyond!
Improve drawing skills using a variety of media!
(Note New Class Length and Price)
Learn basics including line, shape, value, scale, rhythm, and light. Work in black and white using a viewfinder and charcoal learning composition and shading. Then, work in pen and ink and wash learning free-flowing pen and brush lines and shading with cross-hatching, stippling and wash. Next, we work with pencil to learn basic perspective. Students may draw from their choice of subject matter including still life set-ups, flowers & other nature objects, from photographs or their imagination using a variety of approaches to provide a well rounded introduction to drawing. Plus, learn an easy, economical way to mat and frame finished pieces.
Advanced students or those who have taken a class with Stephanie can work in their choice of any drawing/painting media, with instructor working with them individually.
Students should bring any supplies they already have to first class along with several objects or subjects to draw from. Materials will be discussed and list handed out at first class.
