Description
tory of the Etching
“This etching was drawn looking at a beautiful view of San Francisco Bay from a hilltop at Jones and Green Streets, Nob Hill neighborhood – one of about 50 of San Francisco’s hilltops. Wharves at the waterfront are visible, many sailboats sail in the Bay, a freighter floats by, Alcatraz is in the center, Marin County hills are in the distance on the beautiful day when I drew this.”
Each print is a numbered, limited edition, handmade piece of art. I create my metal etching plates using 17th century tools & techniques including making the original drawing in wax which is destroyed during the process of etching with acid. I do finish work by cutting the metal by hand with a burin (engraving). Each plate is then individually hand-printed. I work extensively in etchings of plants, landscapes, and seascapes. This notecard is a reproduction of my original etching and engraving.
